All Lehigh University 1-MBA students will spend one week in California as part of an integrated program experience in the Societal Shifts course sequence. During your six days in California, you will visit companies and engage with thought leaders in the societal shifts in which you have been exploring in your MBA program. The societal shifts include: Climate Change, Big Data/Fast Data, Rapid Urbanization, Technological Innovation (Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain) and more.
Your 1-MBA tuition covers the following: group transfer in and out of San Francisco airport, deluxe coach for transport to all business meetings, group lunches and dinners and group cultural activities, five nights of hotel accommodations (double occupancy) with complimentary breakfast and internet access, one welcome group dinner, one departing group dinner, and one tour of San Francisco. All students are responsible at their own expense for airfare to San Francisco and airfare back to Lehigh University. Exceptions to this integrated travel course will not be made.
Societal Shifts Course Sequence Descriptions
Societal Shifts I - on campus, summer term
This course introduced the eight societal shifts that we will focus on, and the societal divides that they may lead to. It also explored the linkage between the Societal Shifts and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and focused on three Societal Shifts in particular, Climate Change, Changing Demographics, and Rapid Urbanization, leading to a focus on Sustainable Cities (SDG 11) and Climate Action (SDG 13), and how society needs to think about sustainable growth in the coming decades.
Societal Shifts II - on campus with week in California, winter term
This course will take an in-depth look at each of the eight societal shifts. The societal shifts will be examined in pairs and then integrated to form scenarios for society in the coming decades. We will then focus on the impacts at the industry and individual company level of these societal shifts.

"I think the big takeaway from the trip to California was that it really opened our eyes to what's possible from a Lehigh student. And seeing Lehigh people at these huge firms and succeeding in the world really gave us more confidence that we could do it as well."
