The key differentiator between one-year and two-year, full-time MBA programs historically has been one-year MBA students needing to forego an internship due to the condensed timeline of a one-year program. At Lehigh University we only offer a one-year, full-time program, "1-MBA", and realize that for some students an internship can be a powerful tool in helping with a career pivot or to gain additional industry experience at a company in the United States. Lehigh University’s 1-MBA has a strong track record of preparing MBA students for the workplace without an internship and we anticipate that will continue to be the most common path for 1-MBA students; however, flexibility is key as our focus is to meet the needs of each individual student. By offering an optional internship component to the program, students are best able to position themselves for their re-entry to the marketplace by determining if an internship will set them up to meet their post-MBA goals.

Internship Logistics

1-MBA Concentrations: None, Financial Management, Marketing

July Program Start | August Diploma (13 months) (Domestic + International Students)

Students who do not declare a concentration, or are pursuing the Financial Management or Marketing concentrations, would have the ability to enroll in a 1-credit internship during the summer semester (late May to mid August). Students would need to register for the summer internship course and attend some on campus coursework related to the course in late May before departing for any internship. Students interested in registering for this course would need to have an internship approved by the 1-MBA Program Director and likely in coordination with respected department chairs before accepting an offer of an internship to determine the quality of the opportunity. While Lehigh University’s 1-MBA program will support students searching for internships, please note that internships are not guaranteed and the onus is on the student to secure an internship and get it approved for credit by Lehigh University.  An undeclared 1-MBA student’s graduation date would change from May to August. Both domestic and international students can pursue this optional internship which follows the 1-MBA curriculum.

Please note that some internships will require students to return to their program for an additional semester. This may be accommodated for the 1-MBA based on securing an internship. Please note there is no additional tuition cost for completing a summer internship in the 1-MBA program.

1-MBA Concentrations: Business Analytics, Supply Chain Management

Domestic Students: July Program Start | August Diploma (13 months)
International Students: July Program Start | December Diploma (18 months)

Students who declare a Business Analytics or Supply Chain Management concentration have the ability to enroll in a 1 credit internship during the summer semester (late May to mid August). In addition, any summer course(s) required for a concentration would need to be completed in the evening and or via courses available online (synchronous & asynchronous). This is a critical component in your internship search, that your coursework is most likely to be offered synchronously online in the evening (6 PM start) and students will still be required to attend all classes live online whether an internship is secured or not. It is strongly suggested that your internship search is in EDT or CST time zones assuming a 6 PM EDT start time for summer coursework.
For international students working on Curricular Practical Training (CPT) for the internship, you would be required to to take under 6 credits for the summer semester, while completing the internship.  This would mean that your graduation date would change to December and your 6 credits in the summer semester could be moved to the fall semester.

While Lehigh University 1-MBA program will support students searching for internships, please note that internships are not guaranteed and the onus is on the student to secure an internship and get it approved for credit by Lehigh University. Both domestic and international students can pursue this optional internship which follows the core 1-MBA curriculum. Internships count only as elective credit and can not count towards the concentration.

Please note that some internships will require students to return to their program for an additional semester. This may be accommodated for the 1-MBA based on securing an internship. Please note there is no additional tuition cost for completing a summer internship in the 1-MBA program.
