Our cover story takes a deep dive into the business of health. We talked to 10 of our faculty members about their research in the health sector. Their groundbreaking work ranges from exploring how AI might improve medical diagnoses to how data could enhance diabetes outcomes. There’s also an investigation into the ROI of improved dental care in the elderly.
This year, in addition to our Integrated Business and Engineering and Computer Science and Business programs, we launched an additional interdisciplinary program in conjunction with the College of Health: Integrated Business and Health.
The Lehigh Business curriculum has the expected components: accounting, DATA, finance, management and marketing. We also offer classes in AI, real estate, supply chain, entrepreneurship and even economics. Yes, many universities have economics housed in their College of Arts and Sciences, because for many economics is considered more of a social science. But economics is also business.
Lehigh Business is in the business of everything.
In this issue, we introduce you to the new head of the DATA department, Jennifer Ryan, who is credentialed in business and engineering. We are also celebrating 45 years of our Small Business Development Center that nurtures regional business ventures of all types.
Our faculty is writing about ETFs and underestimating the effects of monetary policy while simultaneously sharing their research findings with students in the classroom. Research subject areas include whether feeling good about a product coaxes you to pay more for it, and the psychology behind AI.
Our alumni are working in the NFL and own restaurants and hotels. They are a real estate mogul, a Formula 1 official, even a CFO of L.L.Bean. One MBA grad just opened a hologram zoo!
The biggest major in the whole university is FINANCE. In the student section of this issue, there is an article about the president of the Scholar of Finance club, who is in the Integrated Business and Engineering program. Also, you’ll find a captivating article about a student who is taking advantage of the 4+1 Master’s in Financial Engineering program, enabling her to earn her master’s one year after graduation. Another student has launched a fintech platform that provides bank-grade financing to small-scale farmers in Kenya. You’re likely to be inspired by another student who, in cooperation with a Lehigh athletic trainer, launched an app to encourage kids to improve their eating habits.
Someone once said, “The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend.”
This issue of Lehigh Business magazine should give you a taste of how Lehigh Business is preparing minds to see, not just business possibilities, but the business of everything.
