Energy

Pennsylvania has an energy rich history and is home to abundant resources such as oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear, hydropower, wind, solar and other renewables.

Shale Energy

Pennsylvania’s long history of oil and gas drilling and significant reserves of natural gas provide opportunities to small businesses.  Recent advances in drilling technology have allowed recovery of natural gas from the Marcellus, Utica and other unconventional gas formations. Shale gas underlies more than two-thirds of the state, with development activities in nearly 40 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

The Pennsylvania SBDC helps small businesses identify and connect with shale energy supply chain opportunities and take advantage of gas utilization opportunities. Visit the Shale Energy Assistance page for more information.
