Lehigh Business has recently announced its 2020-2021 faculty members who were recognized for making a positive difference in the lives of the College of Business students and the college community during what was an unprecedented school year. The complete list is below.
This was the first year that the Matthew A. Melone Faculty Award we presented. This prestigious award recognizes a full time College of Business faculty member who best embodies the legacy of Professor Matthew Melone (pictured). Melone had a wonderful ability to build a bridge between his scholarship and teaching in the classroom that increased his students’ depth of understanding of the law.
Melone died at age 61 in July 2020. He was already a certified public accountant and a tax attorney when he joined the faculty of the College of Business in 1993. He was a recipient of the Class of '61 Professorship, which honors Lehigh faculty for outstanding contributions to teaching, scholarship and service. In 2020, he received the MS in Management Teacher of Excellence Award as voted by the students.
The initial winner of the Matthew A. Melone Faculty Award was Marietta Peytcheva, associate professor, accounting.
"I am humbled to be the inaugural recipient of the Matthew A. Melone Award at Lehigh Business," says Peytcheva. "Matt was unique in his generosity to students and colleagues, and beloved by all. I'll aspire to live up to the example Matt set in his teaching, research and service. Profound thanks to Matt's brother Anthony and his family for their generosity in establishing this award in Matt's honor. Matt is, and will be, an inspiration to all of us."
