Summer 2019 Internship: Summer Intern, Konica Minolta Business Solutions

“This summer I had the opportunity to intern at Konica Minolta Business Solutions in their finance and accounting departments. The internship was designed to give me exposure to the financial reporting aspect and corporate accounting processes of the business. In my position, I worked on payroll accounting, which involved creating entries, payroll reports, tax summaries, and analysis. I also was tasked with reconciling ending balance sheet accounts, as well as performing analysis on leasing contracts and payments. Toward the end of my internship, I was given the project of completing an IFRS revenue recognition model for the corporation, along with an investigative assignment with the accounts receivable department to discover the source of unidentified checks.”

Value derived from internship experience:

“Through my summer internship I was able to receive valuable experience in corporate accounting by being immersed in the finance and accounting departments at Konica Minolta. I was able to understand the company structure and learned that there can be many additional facets to a company that go unrecognized from an outside perspective. I also learned the importance that working in a timely fashion leads to the best work, but also is beneficial to the department specifically in accounting with monthly closes. Through the more opened-ended tasks such as the IFRS revenue recognition model I created and investigative work, I was able to apply my problem-solving abilities to resolve problems. I took away that even if a task appears daunting or challenging, constant persistence and analysis will develop into a solution, that I can take pride in.”

Devin’s career goals:

“Despite having two previous accounting internships, my passion lies in the financial markets as I am constantly following the news, monitoring the markets, and actively engaged in the practice of portfolio management through Lehigh University’s student run ‘Dreyfus Portfolio.’ I am specifically interested in equity research and asset management, and as a junior I hope to receive an internship this next summer in one of these fields so I can launch my career.”
