The landscape of investment banking and finance recruiting has undergone a radical transformation. Historically, firms recruited students during the fall of their senior year. However, around 2015, Wall Street firms entered a race to lock down top talent early. Today, interviews for critical junior summer internships begin during the spring—or even winter—of sophomore year. This timeline demands that students master complex valuation methodologies and technical modeling before they have even completed their core business courses.
What is the advantage to a different institutional approach?
The Lehigh Business finance department watched this finance recruiting trend, recognizing that traditional academic timelines are inherently mismatched with sophomore recruiting. Previously, students relied heavily on peer-led clubs to bridge this gap.
