“This past summer I had the opportunity to work at Stifel Financial Corp. in their investment banking generalist program. Stifel is an international middle-market investment bank that offers comprehensive solutions across product categories and industry coverage groups. The program consisted of one week of training followed by two rotations. I began the first half of my internship at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods (KBW), a boutique investment bank specializing in the financial services sector that was acquired by Stifel in 2013. During my time at KBW, I primarily worked within the depository group on developing a confidential information memorandum for a major institutional client. It was a great learning opportunity because rather than working on a few small projects, I was able to make a major contribution toward the pitch deck. The second half of the summer was at Stifel Financial Corp., where I had exposure to multiple coverage groups, as well as some product groups. My favorite assignment was working on an IPO bakeoff for the biotech team under the healthcare group. My team had a tremendous amount of faith in my ability to individually draft several slides from scratch, which ended up being used in the final slide deck. I also made an effort to gain exposure to the leveraged finance team, allowing me to have work experience in a product group that was not part of the internship program.”
“My internship experience provided me with an invaluable experience that I will cherish moving forward. By working in a fast-paced dynamic environment, I had the ability to observe the top analysts on the floor, seeing what skills they possess that make them successful. I developed professional mannerisms that one can only learn through experience. Aside from gaining extensive knowledge in Excel and in PowerPoint, I enhanced my research, modeling, and valuation capabilities. My attention to detail and quality of work has exponentially improved since starting at Stifel. My biggest takeaway from the internship experience is the professional network that I have built over the summer. My internship class was filled with highly ambitious and intelligent people that will strive to accomplish great work in their respective fields. I still communicate with my internship class and will continue to do so throughout my career, regardless of where we all end up down the road.”
“After graduation, I will continue to pursue opportunities that align with my interests in finance, innovation, and learning. I enjoyed my internship experience and value the skills and contacts I have made at Stifel. Looking at the long-term horizon, I wish to run my own business incubator where I can promote and assist in the development of innovative products that will directly contribute to advancements in society. I also hope to maintain a consistent level of philanthropic activities throughout my career, focusing on educational reform within impoverished areas.”
