Undergraduate Management Major Overview
Management is the art and science of helping individuals achieve goals together, often in organizations. The Management major introduces management principles, theories, and teaches critical thinking and hands-on, applied skills to students who want to be leaders in organizations, small or large, or want careers in the management or related fields – such as human resource management, consulting or project management, among others. The Management major at Lehigh University, featuring renowned research scholars and educators, is designed to give students the knowledge and abilities required to succeed in Management Consulting, Organizational Management, as well as those required to embark on an Entrepreneurship and Innovation trajectory, emphasizing the development of skills in diagnosing business problems, formulating solutions for markets and firms, and effectively communicating recommendations. We take the perspective that beyond just intelligence and technical skills, what differentiates effective managers is their understanding of the human side of business: they develop and coach individuals and teams to ensure individual and group behavior positively influences an organization’s performance and structure. Importantly, in today’s rapidly changing world, emergent megatrends that bring fundamental changes to societies across the globe require students to develop skills that allow companies to efficiently adapt and respond to both threats and opportunities created by these megatrends. The Management Major offers several courses that prepare students to thrive in a modern environment.
The Management Major offers a choice of three distinctive tracks, which emphasize valuable managerial skills that are sought out by employers, such as communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, decision-making, as well as the ability to develop efficient strategies and practices to successfully lead diverse teams and organizations worldwide.
General Management: This track provides the flexibility for students to tailor the Management major to specific career objectives.
Management Consulting: This track prepares students to enter careers in Management Consulting by preparing them to diagnose business problems, formulate solutions and effectively communicate recommendations.
Entrepreneurship and Innovation: This track prepares students to launch new and/or innovative solutions for markets and firms, and develops an entrepreneurial mindset.
The requirements for each of the three tracks in the Management major include:
