Upcoming Mini-Classes

Class Topic: Capital Investment Risk Analysis - Data Analytics for Decision Makers

This interactive case-driven session explores the simple and more complex ways that Excel can assist the financial analyst and manager in making more informed decisions. While the session centers on the development of a DCF analysis for a new product investment, sensitivity analysis and scenario analysis are reviewed. Next, an Excel facilitated technique called “data tables” will be introduced and leads to the application of Monte Carlo Simulation complete with an interactive Excel-based MCS model. The session uses a case study as a framework, interactivity audience activity, and a hands-on exercise.

After building the background for the case study, the DCF financial model, an audience "quiz" follows and demonstrates the need for sensitivity, scenario, data table, and Monte Carlo Analysis. The audience then will be able to select ranges of variables to recast the original findings of the DCF model. After attending this session, the attendee will be able to: (1) use DCF modeling, (2) develop sensitivity and scenario analysis, (3) complete data tables with an understanding of the results, and (4) appreciate the Monte Carlo Simulation technique, understand its results, and know when to apply it to specific situations.

The learning objectives include understanding the concepts behind DCF analysis and the measures associated with analytical risk analysis. The specific learning objectives include: sensitivity analysis, scenario analysis, Excel's data table facility, and Monte Carlo Simulation. Additionally, the attendee will learn when to apply each level of analytical risk analysis.
